Description: Cysteine is a nonessential amino acid that contains the mineral sulfur. It is a component of the antioxidant glutathione and is required for the synthesis of the amino acid taurine. It plays an important role in detoxification and healthy immune system function.

Indications:

  • Antioxidant support
  • HIV

Precautions: Do not use it if you are prone to developing cysteine-related kidney stones. People with liver or kidney disease should not supplement amino acids unless under the direction of a health-care professional.

Dosage: Take 500 to 1,500 mg daily.
