Green Carpeting
By Dr. Alan Greene

  • Green Seal is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the environment by promoting the manufacture and sale of environmentally responsible consumer products. It sets environmental standards and awards a Green Seal to products that cause less harm to the environment than other similar products. The Green Seal Choose Green Report “Carpet” offers a list of recommended carpet brands, their manufacturers, and contacts. Find it at http://www.greenseal.org/resources/reports/CGR_carpet.pdf.
  • Look for carpeting, cushioned underlayments, and floor covering adhesives that display the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label, which indicates that the product has met stringent indoor air quality requirements for very low emissions. To learn more, visit http://www.carpet-rug.com and type the words “green label” in the Web site’s own search box.
