The USDA prohibits the use of the label Chemical Free on any meat and poultry products, but the label No Chemicals Added can be found on meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products.
There is no official definition or verification system for this claim. No chemicals added can mislead consumers into thinking animals were raised without antibiotics or hormones. Since neither antibiotics nor hormones are classified as chemicals, meat and diary products that come from animals raised with either may still carry the label.
