Acupuncture / Acupressure
By James F. Balch, M.D. and Mark Stengler, N.D.

These therapies are based on the ancient Chinese medicine concept that the body contains twelve main channels of acupuncture/acupressure points. Through these channels runs the energy referred to as qi (pronounced chee, also written as "chi"). Disease arises when one or more of these channels (meridians) are blocked. Using needles (acupuncture) or pressing on specific points (acupressure) will reestablish energy flow and balance in the body. There are hundreds of acupuncture/acupressure points. Each point has one or more indications. Practitioners of Oriental medicine use acupuncture and acupressure in their practices.
